Rhododendron Hybrid Horizon Monarch

 

Rhododendron Hybrid Horizon Monarch. A evergreen cross between Nancy Evans' x 'Point Defiance. Reaching around 2m tall this hybrid introduced in 1989 by Brockenbrough of the United States. In addition to its beautiful huge deep orange red buds open to warm yellow flowers flowerheads it has lush deep green coloured foliage. Highly attractive specimen ideal for border plantings.

 

 

Plant in moist acidic well drained soil. Full sun / Partial shade, hardy. Provide a deep winter mulch for added protection.

 

General Rhododendron Planting and care

  • Water the pot thoroughly and allow to drain fully.
  • Dig a hole twice the size of the pot being planted and fork over the base. Adding a bucketful of planting compost.
  • Remove the pot, if the Rhododendron is well rooted cut off the pot.
  • Ensure that the top of the Root ball is level with the surrounding soil.
  • Replace the remaining soil and heel in, water the Rhododendron and area thoroughly
  • Water regular until Rhododendron is established.
  • Apply some general fertiliser every spring.
