Eryngium Neptune's Gold


Sea holly, a clump-forming, evergreen perennial with rounded, deeply lobed, toothed, golden-yellow to yellow-green leaves and, in summer, upright, branched, purple stems bearing cone-like, blue flower-heads with narrow, conspicuous, spiny bract, blue at the base and pale yellow-brown at the tips. Will reach a height of 0.5m and a spread of 0.4m after 2-5 years.


Grow in dry, poor or moderately fertile, well-drained soil in full sun. Protect from winter wet.


General Herbaceous & Perennial Planting and care

  • Water the pot thoroughly and allow to drain fully.
  • Dig a hole twice the size of the pot being planted and fork over the base. Adding some planting compost.
  • Remove the pot gently, if well rooted cut off the pot.
  • Ensure that the top of the Root ball is level with the surrounding soil.
  • Replace the remaining soil and heel in, water the area thoroughly.
  • Water regular until established.
  • Apply some general fertiliser every spring.
