Digitalis Purpurea Virtuoso Lavander


Foxglove, erect, rosette-forming, hairy, biennial or short-lived, deciduous to semi-evergreen perennial with ovate to broadly lance-shaped, wrinkled, toothed, dark green leaves and upright spikes of bell-shaped, lavender coloured flowers in summer. Will reach a height of 0.9m and a spread of 0.4m after 1-2 years. All parts of the plant are highly toxic if eaten.


Grows in most soils or situations except very wet or very dry. An ideal site is humus-rich soil in partial shade.


General Herbaceous & Perennial Planting and care

  • Water the pot thoroughly and allow to drain fully.
  • Dig a hole twice the size of the pot being planted and fork over the base. Adding some planting compost.
  • Remove the pot gently, if well rooted cut off the pot.
  • Ensure that the top of the Root ball is level with the surrounding soil.
  • Replace the remaining soil and heel in, water the area thoroughly.
  • Water regular until established.
  • Apply some general fertiliser every spring.
