Mint Peppermint

 

Mentha x piperita, Peppermint, Black peppermint. clump-forming perennial with lobed leaves, and tall stems carrying large, light mauve flowers in summer. Uses include Cottage/Informal, Drying, Flavouring food and drinks, Wildlife. Will reach a height of 0.5m and a spread of 1.50m after 2-5 years.

 

 

Grow in any moist soil in sun or partial shade. It has invasive roots, so site carefully or restrict root run by planting it in a pot within the ground.

 

General Herb Planting and care

  • Water the pot thoroughly and allow to drain fully.
  • Dig a hole twice the size of the pot being planted and fork over the base. Adding a bucketful of planting compost.
  • Remove the pot gently, if the Herb is well rooted cut off the pot.
  • Ensure that the top of the Root ball is level with the surrounding soil.
  • Replace the remaining soil and heel in, water the Herb and area thoroughly
  • Water regular until Herb is established.
  • Apply some general fertiliser every spring.
