Levisticum officinale, Lovage, Bladderseed. Celery-scented perennial herb with aromatic dark green leaves and yellow-green flowers in summer, followed by aromatic seeds. Add to salads, Beds and borders, Bees (attract & feed bees), Cottage/Informal, Drying, Flavouring food and drinks, Foliage only. Will reach a height of 2.5m and a spread of 0.5m after 2-5 years.


Plant in fertile, well drained soil. If you want seed development, plant in full sun, or leaf production plant in partial shade. Leaves can be picked as required and seeds gathered when ripe.


General Herb Planting and care

  • Water the pot thoroughly and allow to drain fully.
  • Dig a hole twice the size of the pot being planted and fork over the base. Adding a bucketful of planting compost.
  • Remove the pot gently, if the Herb is well rooted cut off the pot.
  • Ensure that the top of the Root ball is level with the surrounding soil.
  • Replace the remaining soil and heel in, water the Herb and area thoroughly
  • Water regular until Herb is established.
  • Apply some general fertiliser every spring.
