Vitis Coignetiae


Vitis Coignetiae, Grape Vine, Vine. A fast growing deciduous woody climber with large heart-shaped dark green leaves, turning bright red in autumn. Produces unpalatable blue-black grapes in autumn. Makes an attractive wall shrub. Max Height 15m. Flowers June to July. Fruits September.


Plant in fertile well drained soil. Full sun / partial shade, Hardy.


General Climber Planting and care

  • Water the Climber thoroughly and allow to drain fully
  • If the Climber is being planted in a lawn remove a circle of turf
  • Dig a hole twice the size of the pot being planted and fork over the base Adding a bucketful of planting compost
  • Remove the pot gently, if well rooted cut off the pot
  • Ensure that the top of the Root ball is level with the surrounding soil
  • Replace the remaining soil and heel in well
  • Water the Climber and area thoroughly, then again at least once a week during the first growing season
  • Apply some general fertiliser every spring
