Lathyrus Latifolius


Broad-leaved everlasting pea. A fast-growing, herbaceous perennial that climbs using tendrils. It has greyish-green leaves and, from summer through to autumn, bears racemes of pale-pink flowers. Height 2.5m, Spread of 1m after 1-2 years.


Plant in sun or partial shade in fertile well-drained soil against a support. Cut back to ground level in autumn.


May cause stomach discomfort if ingested.


General Climber Planting and care

  • Water the Climber thoroughly and allow to drain fully
  • If the Climber is being planted in a lawn remove a circle of turf
  • Dig a hole twice the size of the pot being planted and fork over the base Adding a bucketful of planting compost
  • Remove the pot gently, if well rooted cut off the pot
  • Ensure that the top of the Root ball is level with the surrounding soil
  • Replace the remaining soil and heel in well
  • Water the Climber and area thoroughly, then again at least once a week during the first growing season
  • Apply some general fertiliser every spring
