Hedera canariensis Gloire De Marengo


Hedera canariensis Gloire De Marengo, Canary Island Ivy. A vigorous fast growing evergreen climber with light silvery green leaves, variegated creamy white. Can be grown as a houseplant. Makes for an excellent wall climber or creeping ground cover if unsupported. Max Height 4m. Harmful if eaten/may cause skin allergy.

Plant in well drained soil sheltered from cold drying winds. Partial shade, Frost hardy. If used as a house plant keep in a bright room away from direct sunlight. Water sparingly in winter, Mist regularly, Liquid feed fortnightly during growing season.


General Climber Planting and care

  • Water the Climber thoroughly and allow to drain fully
  • If the Climber is being planted in a lawn remove a circle of turf
  • Dig a hole twice the size of the pot being planted and fork over the base Adding a bucketful of planting compost
  • Remove the pot gently, if well rooted cut off the pot
  • Ensure that the top of the Root ball is level with the surrounding soil
  • Replace the remaining soil and heel in well
  • Water the Climber and area thoroughly, then again at least once a week during the first growing season
  • Apply some general fertiliser every spring
