Viola Mrs Lancaster

 

Compact, spreading, evergreen perennial with ovate, toothed, dark green leaves and, from mid-spring to late summer, long stems bearing strongly fragrant, white flowers with yellow eyes. Uses include Beds and borders, Coastal, Containers, Cottage/Informal, Garden edging, Underplanting. Height of 0.15m, Spread 0.25m after 2-5 years.

 

Prefers cool protected area, especially in summer months with moist, but free draining soil or compost. Fun Sun or partial shade.

 

General Alpine Planting and care

  • Water the Alpine thoroughly and allow to drain fully
  • If the Alpine is being planted in a lawn remove a circle of turf
  • Dig a hole twice the size of the pot being planted and fork over the base Adding a bucketful of planting compost
  • Remove the pot gently, if the tree is well rooted cut off the pot
  • Ensure that the top of the Root ball is level with the surrounding soil
  • Replace the remaining soil and heel in well
  • Water the Alpine and area thoroughly, then again at least once a week during the first growing season
  • Apply some general fertiliser every spring
