Viola Jackanapes

 

Compact, clump-forming, evergreen perennial with ovate, toothed, mid- to bright green leaves and, from late spring into summer, flowers with purple-brown upper petals and brown-marked, bright yellow lower petals. Height 0.2m, Spread of 0.2m after 2-5 years.

 

Prefers cool protected area, especially in summer months with moist, but free draining soil or compost. Fun Sun or partial shade.

 

General Alpine Planting and care

  • Water the Alpine thoroughly and allow to drain fully
  • If the Alpine is being planted in a lawn remove a circle of turf
  • Dig a hole twice the size of the pot being planted and fork over the base Adding a bucketful of planting compost
  • Remove the pot gently, if the tree is well rooted cut off the pot
  • Ensure that the top of the Root ball is level with the surrounding soil
  • Replace the remaining soil and heel in well
  • Water the Alpine and area thoroughly, then again at least once a week during the first growing season
  • Apply some general fertiliser every spring
