Sempervivum Rubin


Houseleek 'Rubin', Hens-and-chicks 'Rubin', Live forever 'Rubin'. Mat-forming, evergreen perennial with rosettes of fleshy, oblong to broadly lance-shaped, burgundy to burgundy-tipped, olive green leaves and leafy stems bearing clusters of rose-pink flowers in summer. Will reach a height of 0.1m and a spread of 0.3m after 2-5 years.



Plant in moderately fertile, gritty, well-drained soil in full sun. Dislikes wet winter conditions.


General Alpine Planting and care

  • Water the Alpine thoroughly and allow to drain fully
  • If the Alpine is being planted in a lawn remove a circle of turf
  • Dig a hole twice the size of the pot being planted and fork over the base Adding a bucketful of planting compost
  • Remove the pot gently, if the tree is well rooted cut off the pot
  • Ensure that the top of the Root ball is level with the surrounding soil
  • Replace the remaining soil and heel in well
  • Water the Alpine and area thoroughly, then again at least once a week during the first growing season
  • Apply some general fertiliser every spring
