Saxufraga Highlander White & Red


Highly coveted for the blooming shades of red and white it shows off during spring and early summer. Tiny, evergreen leaves grow beneath the blooms in a slightly spreading habit to form a finely textured perennial fit for rock gardens, gravel beds and alpine conditions. Flowers have emerald green centers that match its foliage and make for a smart looking plant. They attract butterflies and look gorgeous on their own or when planted near broadleaf purple or dark green surrounding foliage. Mature Height 4-6 in. Mature Spread 6-9 in.



Moist well drained soil, Full Sun / Partial Shade


General Alpine Planting and care

  • Water the Alpine thoroughly and allow to drain fully
  • If the Alpine is being planted in a lawn remove a circle of turf
  • Dig a hole twice the size of the pot being planted and fork over the base Adding a bucketful of planting compost
  • Remove the pot gently, if the tree is well rooted cut off the pot
  • Ensure that the top of the Root ball is level with the surrounding soil
  • Replace the remaining soil and heel in well
  • Water the Alpine and area thoroughly, then again at least once a week during the first growing season
  • Apply some general fertiliser every spring
