Dianthus India Star

 

Small cushion-forming perennial with linear, grey-green evergreen leaves and deep rose-pink flowers in summer and early autumn. Situations include Banks and Slopes, City, Cottage/Informal, Beds and borders, Garden edging, Gravel, Containers, Coastal, Roof terrace. Will reach a height of 0.25m and a spread of 0.25m after 2-5 years.

 

 

Plant in well-drained, neutral to alkaline soil in full sun. Grows best in soil enriched with well-rotted manure or garden compost.

 

General Alpine Planting and care

  • Water the Alpine thoroughly and allow to drain fully
  • If the Alpine is being planted in a lawn remove a circle of turf
  • Dig a hole twice the size of the pot being planted and fork over the base Adding a bucketful of planting compost
  • Remove the pot gently, if the tree is well rooted cut off the pot
  • Ensure that the top of the Root ball is level with the surrounding soil
  • Replace the remaining soil and heel in well
  • Water the Alpine and area thoroughly, then again at least once a week during the first growing season
  • Apply some general fertiliser every spring
