Arabis ferdinandi-coburgi Variegata

 

A variegated selection, that forms a very low carpet of rounded, waxy-looking green and white streaked leaves. A choice groundcover for a small area, also excellent for edging and in the rock garden. Great between flagstones. Small white flowers in spring are a bonus, although not particularly showy. Also excellent in alpine troughs or mixed containers. Plants are easily divided in early fall. Evergreen. Height 5-10 cm Spread 15-20 cm.

 

Sunny spot in well drained soil. Drought tolerant, once established.

 

General Alpine Planting and care

  • Water the Alpine thoroughly and allow to drain fully
  • If the Alpine is being planted in a lawn remove a circle of turf
  • Dig a hole twice the size of the pot being planted and fork over the base Adding a bucketful of planting compost
  • Remove the pot gently, if the tree is well rooted cut off the pot
  • Ensure that the top of the Root ball is level with the surrounding soil
  • Replace the remaining soil and heel in well
  • Water the Alpine and area thoroughly, then again at least once a week during the first growing season
  • Apply some general fertiliser every spring
